10 second review: Nokia's N-Series phones
Saw and tried Nokia's new N-Series phones today. In a nutshell:
N70 -- Very good all-round phone. 3G, good camera, excellent 'work' tools (word, excel software)
N80 -- Stunner. 3 megapixel camera, nice slide-open mechanism, excellent interface. The one to get.
N90 – Great cameraphone (2 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens). But too bulky. Rejected by all the Irish networks, but available sim-free for €600.
N91 -- 4GB music phone that holds up to 3,000 songs. But doesn't work easily with iTunes and so far can only download music over the air from operators' portals which are way too expensive. No thanks.
N92 -- Pitched as a TV phone, it has a special receiver built in for taking video and TV uploads on its 3 inch screen. Way too ahead of the market and too bulky for a regular mobile.
Pricing? All but the N70 have yet to be launched on operator's subsidies. It's rumoured that that Vodafone has rejected the N80, which is infuriating.
Would you review the N80 and specifically try to hammer its battery life by working its WLAN capability in various settings? The N70 is a sweet little number but I've had issues with syncing it to my five-year-old laptop, probably because the XP OS is syncing three other phones. It cannot see the N70 and that's frustrating because I want to install some IM, keyboard, and multimedia handlers on the phone.
