I was speaking to the owner of The Laptop Shop, Robert Brennan, yesterday. He said that the chain of seven shops is willing to "discuss" pricing on its products, given the current sterling crisis and the huge disparity between online and offline prices. Fair play to him, I say. DID, Power City, PC World will not give you such a service.
I always haggle with PowerCity, but I have to admit I have never bought a laptop there.

Yep, but for what -- a tenner? Laptops Shop are saying that they'll try to "come within €50 of the online price". Which could be €75, €100 off...

I've haggled in a Sony shop. On their top dictaphone at the time. If I remember correctly I got somewhere between 50-100 euro off the marked price.

Fair play, Cian. I think everyone should try that. And retailers should be open about it. It helps them in the long run, as punters might give them a go before automatically heading online.

The market is competitive and there is nothing wrong in a little haggle
