Damien Mulley and Klara Golez have a well researched post here about Irish PR firms' levels of online engagement. They list each PR firm and goes through whether they have a website, Facebook page, Twitter account, RSS feed and other appropriate measures. It looks fairly shocking at first. But in fairness, it only reflects the reality of ordinary companies in Ireland: Irish business is very non-tech friendly, in general.
There's also the likes of Carr Communications which work in the background and don't reveal their clients. As per their website:
"...It is our policy not to provide details of these clients on our website. Unless it is information already in the public domain, we do not confirm or deny which organisations have worked with us or not, nor any of their contractual terms..."

That's a bit embarrasing to be honest. I do think that the attitudes of businesses is changing though and a lot will begin to engage with the interent and social media in the near future.
At the moment the biggest problem is awareness, or lack there of. There is a bit of a disconnect between some businesses and the internet. A lot see the social media as a place for 'young people'. Many don't realise the vast benifits that exist for businesses that engage with the online world. A bit more coverage in main stream(offline) media would certainly help to speed up the uptake of businesses.
