I got Sony Ericsson's Aino (€450 sim-free, less on operator contract) last week and have started giving it a go. First impressions, divided into positives and negatives...
1. Camera (8 megapixels) is very good quality, likewise the camcorder.
2. Very compact, fits nicely into my pocket
3. Not too ambitious with touchscreen element: only uses the touchscreen for multimedia (photos, movies, camera. Leaves texting, emailing, navigation to the keypad, which is faster.
4. Can be used as a remote control for your PS3 (though I haven't tried this yet)
NEGATIVES1. No 3.5mm headphone jack!!!! Instead, SE has provided a (battery powered) Bluetooth dongle accessory, on which there is a 3.5mm jack. Sorry, SE, that's not the same thing.
2. Feels underpowered for a touchscreen device. Sony Ericsson won't say what speed the processor is (I'll find out before my final review), but it definitely feels some way back from the 600Mhz ships that it's big brother, the Satio, uses.
3. Web browser: for some reason Sony Ericsson has never delivered a great web browsing experience. Given how high-spec the phones are in other areas (photos, music), it's a gaping hole. The Aino is competent to check basic stuff, but makes for a slow and frustrating web-browsing experience compared to many of its rivals.
4. Screen is too small to watch movies on.
Full review to follow.
