Today, I have two long-ish interviews in The Sunday Business Post. These are: the Fallon Brothers (founders’ of Daft.ie, owners of Boards.ie and The Journal.ie) and Michael Birch, founder of Bebo (from which he made close to $600 million when he sold it two years ago).
One thing has been bugging me about these men since conducting the inteviews. This is how infuriatingly down-to-earth and reasonable they are.
I don’t know about you, but I like my over-achieving entrepreneurs to be complete bastards. That way, I don’t look in the mirror and say: “well, if you’d got up off your arse, that could’ve been you”. Instead, I would have the false comfort of saying: “yes they’ve bent the word to their image, but you have to be an arsehole to do that. And they’re ruthless, conniving cocks”. But -- damn them! -- neither the Fallon Brothers nor Michael Birch are cocks. Instead they’re grounded, logical, affable fellows.
Harumph!
